Course compatibility depends on how your institution delivers the lecture.

Canvas can contain native media, Canvas Studio, recorded conferences, and videos embedded from third-party tools. A responsible landing page should not promise identical behavior across every institution.

Start with one real lecture

Install Audicap, open the lecture in desktop Chrome, and use the free minutes to confirm that the selected tab exposes usable audio. If the course opens a video in a new tab or an external player, select the tab where the audio actually plays.

Use instructor-provided captions when they solve the problem.

Canvas and embedded media may already include captions or a transcript. Audicap is most useful when you need a consistent personal history, optional translation, notes, or export across different course tools.

Why Canvas learners need a separate record

Course modules are organized around assignments and completion. Your professional work may be organized around concepts, decisions, or terminology. A personal transcript helps connect the spoken explanation to the task you need to complete later.

  • Recorded lectures use different players from one module to the next.
  • The useful explanation is inside a long video with limited navigation.
  • You need to compare terminology across several weeks.
  • You want to add your own note without editing course content.
Institutional rules come first.

Only capture material when your course, institution, employer, and applicable law allow it. Do not capture confidential student information, protected assessments, private discussions, or restricted recordings without authorization.

Test the active Canvas audio tab with Audicap's real controls.

Canvas media configurations vary, so use Start Recording and the Live view for a short compatibility check first.

  1. 01
Open the permitted lecture in desktop Chrome

If Canvas launches an external player, switch to the normal Chrome tab where the audio is actually playing.

  2. 02
Open Audicap and press Start Recording

Start the active tab and complete the Audicap toolbar click if Chrome requests capture authorization.

  3. 03
Check the Live transcript before continuing

Confirm that audio is arriving and specialist vocabulary is readable before using more credits on the full lecture.

  4. 04
Stop, save, and review in History

Press Stop Recording, then open the saved session to add permitted notes, mark it for review, summarize, share, or export.

Graduate and continuing education

Preserve dense explanations that connect readings, lectures, and professional practice across a multi-week course.

Embedded specialist training

Recorded seminars

Keep the speaker's reasoning and examples for later discussion without reducing the session to isolated bullet points.

Cross-language coursework

Compatibility, permission, and practical limits.

Can Audicap transcribe every video inside Canvas?

No universal guarantee is possible because institutions use different native and third-party players. Test the exact lecture in desktop Chrome before relying on the workflow.

Does Audicap need my Canvas password?

Audicap operates from the Chrome tab you select. Never provide your institutional password to unofficial pages or support requests.

Can I transcribe a private class discussion?

Only with appropriate authorization. Course rules, participant consent, institutional privacy policies, and applicable law may restrict recording or transcription.

Is Audicap affiliated with Canvas or Instructure?

No. Audicap is an independent Chrome extension and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instructure or Canvas.

Confirm compatibility before the material matters.
